Colostrum: small but mighty ✨
Colostrum is the very first milk your body produces in the first few days after birth — and although your body only makes tiny amounts to begin with, it is incredibly powerful. It is thick, golden, nutrient-dense and packed with protective antibodies to support your baby’s immune system.
Honestly? It’s one of the closest things to magic that exists.
You may be advised by your midwife to start colostrum harvesting from around 36 weeks of pregnancy. There are several clinical reasons why it may be particularly recommended, but many mums and birthing people can benefit from learning how to express and store colostrum before baby arrives.
Colostrum harvesting can help you feel more prepared, informed and confident — especially if your baby may need a little extra support with feeding in those early hours and days.
I now offer gentle, evidence-based colostrum harvesting support, including how to hand express, safely collect and store colostrum, and when it may be useful.
